Lloyd Concrete had yet another successful year at the 2016 World of Concrete Convention in Las Vegas, Nevada. The World of Concrete brings the entire industry together and is the venue of choice for many associations annual board and committee meetings. As well as meetings, WOC attracts approximately 1,450 exhibitors and occupies more than 675,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor exhibit space to display equipment, tools, products and services for the commercial construction, concrete and masonry industries.
The ASCC started a new finishing committee for concrete finishers where Steve Lloyd and David Somero serve as co-chairs. Our first meeting that took place during the WOC is where Steve Lloyd spoke about problems finishers might have and possible solutions to overcome these problems. As well as starting a new committee and speaking about finishers, Lloyd Concrete helped examine finishers pouring a high tolerance super flat. We were testing for ACI concrete flatwork finishers and technician certificates. Judging took many hours and we were honored to be selected to assess the floors.
Steve Lloyd also spoke on constructing slabs on Vapor Retarders in the Quality in Concrete: The Nuisance and Necessity of Placing Concrete Directly on a Vapor Retarder. Questions such as, How do concrete slabs placed directly on plastic vapor retarders behave? Is curling increased? What is a dominant joint and is this problem more pronounced with slabs placed directly on a vapor retarder? How can these problems be avoided? Is the solution to simply eliminate joints?, were answered by Steve and a four-person panel of slab experts and members of ACI Committee 302 (Construction of Concrete Floors).
Not only were we able to speak at different forms and luncheons, but we were also able to learn and connect with other business’ in our industry while we were there. The WOC allowed us to be able to discuss, share, and learn about the latest knowledge in every facet of the professional concrete business. Below is a video from WOC of Steve Lloyd discussing how the new Finishing Committee will begin and how to address ongoing issues in the concrete finishing industry. We look forward to attending the World of Concrete in 2017!
